Welcome to MultiLipi! If you are moving your website translation project from another provider (like Weglot , WPML , TraduciStampa o GTranslate ), you are in the right place.
Switching to a new localization platform can feel daunting, but you do not need to start from scratch. MultiLipi's import tools allow you to transfer your existing translations and glossary rules so you can pick up exactly where you left off—only now with faster load times, superior Multilingual SEO, and complete design freedom.
Understanding the Migration Process
Before we begin, it's important to set expectations: Migration is not a one-click magic button. Because different translation plugins format their data differently, there is no universal "sync" button. However, by exporting your translations into a standard format (CSV or XLIFF) and importing them into MultiLipi, you will save dozens (or hundreds) of hours compared to re-translating your site.

Phase 1: Export Your Existing Translations
Get your hard work out of your current translation tool.
Your first step is to get your hard work out of your current translation tool. You will need to export your translated strings into either a CSVo XLIFF file format.
Nota: If your site uses multiple languages (e.g., French, Spanish, and Japanese), you will likely need to export a separate file for each language pair (e.g., English to French).
How to export from common providers:
Weglot
Go to your Weglot Dashboard → Traduzioni → Esportazione . Choose your format (CSV is usually easiest to read and edit) and download the file.
WPML
Vai a WPML → Traduzioni . You may need to use their XLIFF export tool depending on your setup.
TraduciStampa
Vai a Impostazioni → TraduciStampa → Avanzato → Export/Import and generate a CSV export.
Mancia: Save these files in a dedicated folder on your computer and name them clearly (e.g., Export_EN_to_FR.csv).
Phase 2: Install MultiLipi on Your Website
Connect MultiLipi so it knows where to put your translations.
Before you can import your translations, MultiLipi needs to be connected to your website so it knows where to put them!
Create your MultiLipi Account
If you haven't already, sign up and create a new Project.
Add Your Original Language
Select the language your website is currently written in.
Add Your Target Languages
Select the languages you are migrating (e.g., French, Spanish).
Connect Your Site
Follow the integration instructions for your specific platform.

Disable Your Old Plugin
Once MultiLipi is installed and the base language switcher is visible, deactivate your previous translation plugin. Having two translation scripts running simultaneously will cause conflicts and break your site's layout.
Phase 3: Scan Your Website Content
Let MultiLipi detect your original content strings.
MultiLipi works by matching the "Original String" (the text on your website) with the "Translated String" (the text in your import file).
For this to work, MultiLipi needs to "see" the original strings on your live website first.
Open your MultiLipi Dashboard

Check Current Status
Currently, this list might be empty because MultiLipi hasn't scanned your pages yet.
The Manual Scan
The easiest way to populate this list is to simply visit your live website and browse through your pages. Every time you open a page, MultiLipi instantly detects the text and adds it to your dashboard.
The Auto-Scan (Recommended for large sites)
Usa il nostro "URL Crawler" feature in the dashboard to automatically scan your sitemap and pull in all the text strings at once.
Phase 4: Import and Match Your Translations
Upload your old translations to match them up.
Now that MultiLipi has detected your website's original text, we can upload your old translations to match them up.
Navigate to Translations Tab
Nel tuo Cruscotto MultiLipi , go to the Lingue tab under project Trasnlations, followed by Editor.
Click Import Button
Fare clic sull'icona Importazione button in the top right corner.
Download the MultiLipi Template
This is a crucial step. Download our sample CSV file.
Format Your Data
Open both your old export file and the new MultiLipi template in Excel or Google Sheets. Copy the "Original Text"e "Translated Text" columns from your old file and paste them into the exact corresponding columns in the MultiLipi template.
Why? Every platform uses slightly different column headers. Matching our template ensures a 100% success rate.
Upload the File
Drag and drop your newly formatted CSV file into the MultiLipi Import window.
Review the Match
MultiLipi will process the file. It will look at the Original String on your website and replace the AI translation with the manual translation you just uploaded.
Important Note on "Fuzzy Matches": If you changed a sentence on your website after you exported your old translations, MultiLipi will not recognize the old translation because the original text no longer matches. You will need to re-translate that specific, updated sentence manually in the MultiLipi Visual Editor.
Bonus Phase: Migrating Your Glossary (Translation Rules)
Preserve your brand terminology and translation exceptions.
If you spent time building a Glossary in your old tool (e.g., ensuring your brand name "TechFlow" is never translated to "Flux Technologique" in French), you should migrate that too!

Export your Glossary from your previous provider
Navigate to Translation Rules
In the MultiLipi Dashboard, navigate to Translation Rules → Glossary.
Click Import Glossary
Match the Formatting
Just like the translations, ensure your old glossary data matches the MultiLipi formatting (usually just two columns: Terme Rule).
